Moving Mayhem: Closet Purging and Organization

As most of you know I am getting ready to move from Indiana to Montana in about a month. It's also no secret that I have a bit of a shopping problem, i.e. I shop at least twice a week. For some people that might not seem like a lot but to me it's excessive because of this I have accumulated a lot of stuff. Clothes, shoes, purses, you name it! Normally I wouldn't even be bothered by it, my philosophy is the more the merrier when it comes to clothes. The kicker is that during my move the only things that will be coming with me is what I can pack into my Jeep Commander. I know I am at least hauling a TV and a couple of my organization pieces, along with books, decorations, etc. So now I am faced with the challenge of my closet and it's going to be a tough one!

I plan on turning this into a two part series. The first part will be about purging your closet. Do I really need four pairs of black heels? Are ten bathing suits practical when I'll be living in Eastern Montana? The answer to both of those questions is probably no.

The second part will be organization. Organizing my closet is something I've been working on for a while and it's been a long process. I've been finding cute organization labels, budget friendly containers, and trying to figure out how to maximize the use of my space.

Stay tuned!

  1. I need to learn from you. I have NEVER had a closet that stayed organized more than a week. Well, maybe when I loved alone, but never again once I lived with my husband and kids LOL.

    1. Believe me, it takes a lot of discipline for mine to stay organized! So you're not the only one! I am going to try and make things as detailed as possible, so hopefully it helps. :)

  3. Can't wait to hear how you pull it off. I am a shopper and my closet is packed. LT has a lot of clothes too. I ask myself "Have I worn this in the last year?" If the answer is no, I am SUPPOSED TO put it in the Helping Hands pile. That is hard to do and sometimes I don't, but it might help you. Good luck!!

    1. I am the same way! I know the one year rule is a big one but some things I keep holding out to wear for the "right" time. They are going to be leaving this time around.

  4. Can't wait! I have been going through my closets as well. I haven't worked outside the home is 3 years now. I figured it was time to get rid of all my old work clothes and things I don't really need anymore.

    1. Hopefully I'll have some tips to simplify the process! I have a lot of things that I also just haven't taken the time to part with them.
